Shifting Color Tones

If you’re thinking about selling your home this year, let’s talk about how color schemes and color preferences are shifting. In the past, grays have been the go-to color. I have used them personally, and a lot of my friends and family have too. Everybody likes gray – it’s a good color and it matches easily. However, that trend is starting to change as we adjust to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mood Shift

Most designers believe this shift is due largely to quarantining. After people have looked at the same spaces over and over each day, their moods and opinions have started to change. It’s easy to see how gray could seem a bit gloomy after everything that happened in 2020. Let’s dive into what the color trends are for 2021!

A Blank Canvas

Although gray has been the color of choice for many years, a lot of people are wanting to lighten and brighten their homes instead. Earthy, warm, and neutral tones are beginning to replace gray tones. In fact, 63% of designers have said that whites and creams are the shades of 2021 for those wanting to sell their home. Furthermore, white has become an extremely popular choice of exterior color for selling a home.

Light and Soothing

The most used “colors of the year” by homeowners are projected to be Benjamin Moore’s Aegean Teal and Sherwin Williams’ Urbane Bronze. The teal is a warm sea color, while the bronze is more of an earthy tone. The most popular hues for kitchens are natural and earth tones as well as shades of green. Home offices are mainly off-white or navy blue, and bedrooms are predominantly blue.

Additionally, pops of color, textures, textiles, and wallpaper are growing in popularity to incorporate in homes. This can be done with linens or pillows, painting an accent wall, adding an accent wall with wallpaper, painting your kitchen island, or making your cabinets two-toned. There are many ways to add fun and soothing shades without overdoing it.

I hope this information inspired you, whether you’re planning on selling your home this year, or you just want to spice things up at home. Let me know how I can help!
