In today’s real estate podcast listen here to Decatur’s top real estate brokers Chris Harrison and Zane Peterson while they chat with Aric Lee about the rich history and future potential of the Barnes-Citizens Building.
The building is currently home to Neuhoff Radio and has a long history of being a staple location to a bank and a handful of medical and law practices over the years. It’s the tallest building in downtown Decatur and has an Art Deco design constructed by Holabird & Root Engineers consisting of two conjoining “super structure” buildings, constructed with brick, concrete, and steel. The 5 story building was built in 1909 and the 12 story building was started in 1929, but finished in 1930. It’s believed that there was plans to build another tower, but those plans never came to fruition due to the Great Depression.
